What Do Recruiters Want? 2023 Edition
10,000 recruiters attempted this survey, 2571 completed it. Can we beat these numbers in 2023?
Two years ago was peak recruiter.
Economies were opening up after vaccination rollout, and we had 2 years worth of pent up economic activity ready to go, with a new world to be built that was a remote first, people centred, digital only paradise. Tech startups building for this future - ClubHouse, Zoom, Hopin - raised billions in the race to colonise a veritable New World of opportunity. Mark Zuckerberg even abandoned Facebook to build the infrastructure upon which all other new apps and services would play. Everybody was hiring, and nobody could hire the people tasked with the hiring.
We were even temporarily the No1 most in-demand job role on LinkedIn, as shown in this now famous chart from May 2021. It was around this time that I started the What Do Recruiters Want? survey, in an attempt to discover what the recruiter community really wanted from employers, so that those employers could better design job opportunities to attract the best recruiters to work for them. It was a huge undertaking, made more huge by my terrible survey design choices (free text input wtf was I thinking....) and also by the enormous response from you guys - over 10,000 people attempted it(!) and a magnificent 2571 actually completed it.
Now, 2 years on, we have to do it again. Because the world has changed - again - this time toward a darker timeline of hostile de-globalisation, cost of living crisis, runaway climate change, brewing banking crisis and perhaps now, out-of-control AI.
What Do Recruiters Want in this new world? What do we want from employers in 2023 and beyond?
I need you all to click this link now and spend 10 minutes to complete this survey. Once done, please share with your team and network and have them do it as well.
The results will be publicly available via un-gated interactive data viz like the 2021 results, hopefully a useful resource for everyone in the recruiting community. What do recruiters want? Lets find out.
