Great essay. We have been toying with these questions for awhile and haven't come up with a good answer. I am not a ready-shoot-aim guy so typically move a little slower on the "trends" than the rest. I think the shut er down Monday, Friday is an interesting approach to it. My fear is that it leads to a productive three days a week and to many 3-4 day weekends. I do appreciate the data and insights.

thank you Dustin - I think we are naturally moving toward the 3 days in, 2 days out, with the tension between employers and employees producing this compromise. What we should see is a diversity of solutions, and then labour self sorting to the employers which best fit

yes! let's see how this goes. It feels better writing it here, and maybe this also now creates space for something else to replace it on TWIR. I thinking something along the lines of 'chart of the week'. What do you reckon?

I like it! It's sufficiently freeform as to allow you to delve into literally any subject but still gives a clear identity and focus. It could be kinda Hung's version of 538. :)

Ah, sorry: there's a statistician named Nate Silver who is known in the US for his analysis of voting trends and he formed a foundation some years ago predicated on data analytics-driven political prognostication. Really interesting analyses, although like all figures associated with politics, in some circles he's seen as controversial.
